French toast with strawberries and cream

Strawberry and Cream French Toast includes slices of buttered brioche bread, fresh strawberries and whipped cream!

A fancy, restaurant-quality recipe perfect for Easter, Mother's Day, or a bridal shower brunch! This recipe can easily be doubled if you are serving a large crowd!

Strawberry French Toast

It's everything you love about classic French toast ...but even better because it's topped with a syrup of fresh strawberries to die for and melty whipped cream.

Seriously, it's so tasty you don't even need maple syrup ! Though I wouldn't blame you if you still put it on the table

What is Strawberry and Cream French Toast?

When I was looking for ideas for this recipe, I noticed that almost all Strawberry French Toast recipes contain some kind of Strawberry French Toast. And while I love strawberries and cream cheese in something like cheesecake… I really had no desire to eat strawberry cream cheese mixture stuffed in my French toast. No judgment, just not my thing!

Instead, I wanted to honor the traditional French toast and just improve it a bit. So I started with an easy French toast recipe and I got it used as a starting point! From there I added a little brown sugar and a little Grand Marnier. These two little idiots give the French toast an incredible flavor!

To achieve it, you will simply add the cream, the sugar. and vanilla, in a bowl and mix. Then beat with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form! Yes, it's as simple as that!

French Toast Pro Tips:

  1. Use a combination of whole eggs and egg yolks. I know someone will be tempted to skip this and use all whole eggs, but don't ! My unique egg blend creates soft, tender toast that doesn't taste like eggs!

  2. The easiest way to dip bread slices is to pour the egg mixture into a shallow bowl or pie plate. Just be sure to use a larger sized bowl, as a small bowl won't allow you to dip multiple pieces of bread at once.

  3. Get your pan hot and buttered before adding the French toast. I like to start with a tablespoon of butter and add more as needed. The butter is going to give you that golden brown exterior, so don't be stingy. It's French toast after all, so it's not the place to worry about a little more saturated fat.

  4. Do not overcook! I find 2-3 minutes on each side is the perfect time for me, but keep an eye on your toast. It's ready to rock when the belly is golden!

  5. If your syrup is ready before the French toast, you can remove from heat, then reheat over medium-low heat until hot again.

  6. To keep the French toast slices warm, preheat your oven to 200 degrees. Place the cooked French toast slices on a baking sheet and put them in the oven while you continue to cook.

For the whipped cream:

  • 2 soup spoons sugar ice
  • 1 spoon has coffee vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS

For the brioche French toast:
  • Melt a few tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

  • In a large shallow bowl or pie plate, whisk eggs and egg yolks until well blended. Add cinnamon, nutmeg and sugars and whisk until well blended. Finally, add the milk, heavy cream, vanilla and Grand Marnier.

  • Dip each slice of brioche in the egg mixture, making sure both sides are evenly coated.

  • Place the brioche slices in the skillet and cook until the underside is golden brown, about 3 minutes.

  • Flip and continue cooking the other side until golden brown as well, about 2-3 more minutes.

  • Continue with all the French toasts, adding more butter to the pan as needed.

  • Serve hot, with a strawberry coulis and whipped cream!

For the strawberry sauce:
  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Continue cooking until it smells slightly nutty and is a deep golden brown.

  • Stir in sugar, orange juice and half the strawberries. Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until the strawberries have softened and the juices have thickened slightly.

  • In a small bowl, combine water and cornstarch, whisk until smooth. Then add it to the strawberry sauce.

  • Return to a boil and cook, stirring constantly, for about 2 minutes, or until thickened.

  • Add the rest of the strawberries and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

  • Remove from the heat and stir in the Grand Marnier, if desired. Pour over French toast.

For the whipped cream:
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment or in a large bowl using an electric hand mixer, combine the heavy cream, icing sugar and vanilla extract.

  • Whip until stiff peaks form. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use. Best used within 30 minutes!

Assembly:
  • Place the French toast slices on a large serving platter or divide among individual plates.

  • Top with a generous helping of strawberry sauce, then a dollop of whipped cream!

  • Serve immediately, take away or keep for another occasion in an airtight Lunch Box
