Devenir une ninja de la Lunch Box

Become a Lunch Box Ninja

If you have two children in school or nursery, you already know that the routine of preparing meals each day is relentless.

You can streamline your preps by creating a routine , planning ahead, and keeping a stash of lunch box accessories on hand.

The tricks for formidable efficiency

First of all, I suggest that you determine what time of day is best for preparing lunch boxes in your household. If you're an early riser who likes to get up while the kids are still asleep, packing lunch boxes first might be right for you. If your mornings are pretty hectic, try making them the night before . As long as you use a quality airtight lunch box, your lunch boxes will still be fresh the next day.

Personally, I have found that after school and early evening are the best times. As soon as my children come home from school, I empty, wash and dry their Lunch Boxes. While I finish dinner, I prepare the Lunch Boxes at the same time. That means I only have to mess up the kitchen once. It also means that once the kids are in bed, I don't find myself going back to the kitchen one more time, and I can go to bed for the night.

If you like working from a list, having a plan for your lunch boxes each week will definitely help . Your list might just show the "main product" and maybe the snacks you plan to make for the week. It will also come in handy when writing your weekly shopping list .

Having your child's favorite fruits and vegetables on hand is a no-brainer when it comes to packing up quickly. Non-perishable items like canned lentils and legumes, grilled nori sheets, and dried fruit can come in handy on days when you're low on fresh produce

You can use my storage formula:

2 snacks (use the snack boxes and divide into 1 "sweet" snack and 1 "salty" snack, one of these snacks can be for an extracurricular activity), add cut up vegetables, think of a little surprise, pack your main meal and include fruit. Our rounded section is perfect for whole fruit, making it even easier for you.

What to bring......

As children receive about 30% of their daily food at school, the goal of including all five food groups should be a priority. I do a sort of mental checklist when I make my Lunch Boxes and make sure I check off each group.

Breads and cereals

preferably whole grains , bread, baked goods, rice, or couscous-based salads.

Vegetables

cut veggie sticks +/- dip, sandwich fillings, additions to smoothies or baked goods . If you don't have fresh vegetables on hand, consider dried or canned chickpeas or grilled nori (seaweed) sheets.

Fruits

dried fruit, bliss balls , fresh fruit, added to a smoothie.

Dairy products (or calcium-fortified substitutes like soy milk)

they are also sources of protein. Cheese, yogurt, milk.

Quality protein

meat, seeds (you can include them in your baking), lentils/legumes and dairy products.

Do you have a child who is still learning to love vegetables?

Very colorful and slightly bitter in taste, vegetables can be among the most difficult foods for picky eaters to like. Did you know that fruits contain very similar nutrients to vegetables? As your child learns to eat more vegetables, consider offering more fruit to help absorb nutrients .

You now know how to be as efficient as a ninja in the preparation of your Lunch Boxes!
