The dangers of diets
As summer approaches, you may want to go on a diet to get a good “beach figure”.
But did you know that some diets are dangerous for your health ? Yes, in fact, there are many. That's why it's best to be wary of misleading advertisements on TV, social media, billboards, and in many health and fitness magazines.
If you want to lose weight with the help of diets, you will most likely be disappointed. In fact, two-thirds of people who diet gain more weight than they lose. Makes you think, doesn't it? Also, dieting can have a negative impact on your mental well-being.
We would like to briefly introduce you to some of the hidden dangers of diets.
A slowed metabolism
When you eat less, your body gets fewer calories, but it needs them to perform its most important functions. So when you diet, your calorie intake goes down and your metabolism slows down.
Unfortunately, your weight loss will level off over time as your metabolism adjusts to the number of calories you consume. So even if you give up even more calories and exercise more, you'll often be disappointed and likely fall back into your old eating habits and put the weight back on.
In addition to slowing down your metabolism, dieting can put additional stress on your heart. The doctor Isadore Rosenfeld , professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College of New York, wrote in an April 2010 article in CNN Health that diets increase the risk of heart attack.
Additionally, the yo-yo effect has been shown to damage blood vessels , leading to atherosclerosis and other types of heart disease.
When you diet and give up a large portion of the calories you normally consume, it can lead to nutrient deficiencies and various side effects.
For example, if you follow the " mono diet ", which consists of eating only one food for an extended period of time, your body will not receive all the nutrients it needs.
If you avoid the starchy foods found in wholegrain bread, potatoes, rice, and oatmeal, you'll be lower in vitamin D and calcium . By avoiding fruit, you reduce your intake of nutrients such as potassium , vitamin A , vitamin C, and fiber .
The foods you eat also affect your mood . If you don't have the right balance of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, fiber, and fatty acids, you can suffer from depression .
You can also be depressed if your diet plan does not yield the desired results within a certain period of time. So don't try to get a beach figure with the help of a diet. You can be disappointed and become depressed .
Options for healthy eating
A smarter way to lose weight and get fit before summer is to eat a healthy , balanced diet with lots of vegetables and fruits and low in trans fats and sugar. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water regularly and exercise.
You can also follow a food rebalancing, for example eating less during meals but compensating with snacks rich in protein or nutrients. Nothing better than adopting the Lunch Box , it will help you follow your rebalancing schedule correctly. You can prepare your meals in advance and have them on hand when it's time to eat. If you do not have a Lunch Box, I advise you to visit our Ma-Lunch-box website.
